New Visa QR Payment Initiative Supports Seamless Tourism Experiences Across Asia Pacific, From Singapore to Vietnam, China, and Taiwan
Visa recently introduced a cross-border payment solution for the Asia Pacific, making digital payments abroad more accessible and convenient. Through partnerships with top QR payment providers like Lakala (Mainland China), Touch 'n Go Digital (Malaysia), FOMO Pay (Singapore), LINE Pay (Taiwan), VNPay, and Zalopay (Vietnam), Visa aims to empower travelers to make payments abroad using their favorite digital wallets. With this new system, travelers can easily scan merchant QR codes and complete transactions in local currencies.
Initially launching in Singapore, Visa’s cross-border QR payment initiative will gradually expand across Asia Pacific. This expansion highlights Visa's commitment to simplifying international transactions and aligning with the increasing consumer demand for QR payments in the region. Visa’s Consumer Payment Attitudes Study shows that QR payments are growing rapidly, with 26% of Southeast Asian consumers now favoring QR wallet payments, just behind traditional card payments at 34%.
"This program is a significant leap for Asia Pacific’s payments ecosystem," said T.R. Ramachandran, Senior Vice President and Head of Products and Solutions, Visa Asia Pacific. "Now, travelers accustomed to QR payments at home can experience the same ease abroad. Visa is dedicated to making cross-border payments seamless, secure, and more accessible across various regions and QR platforms."
For merchants, particularly small and medium-sized businesses, this initiative offers operational efficiencies and reduced transaction costs while extending their reach to international customers. Supported by Juspay’s payment technology, Visa ensures a smooth, reliable QR payment experience across different platforms.
Visa’s cross-border QR payment solution is a strategic step toward greater financial inclusion, promoting hassle-free travel experiences and supporting the rising trend of QR payments across Asia Pacific.
