Meta served POFMA order over users' reposting of false claims by anti-death penalty group

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) reported that an article on TJC's website, along with posts on its Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and X pages, contained false statements regarding the scheduling of executions in Singapore and the prosecution of drug trafficking cases.

On October 5, a correction direction was issued to TJC, which the organization complied with the following day by adding a correction notice to the posts, clarifying that false information had been shared. This incident follows two previous POFMA correction orders issued to TJC over similar false claims about death row prisoners.

MHA noted that individuals who reposted the TJC content on October 23 and 24 “chose to communicate falsehoods that they knew or should have known were inaccurate.”

In response, the MHA directed the POFMA Office to issue targeted correction instructions to Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram. These targeted corrections require Meta to notify users who viewed the reposts that they contain false statements.
